WORD HOUSE is a physical and virtual space, rooted in Marlboro, Vermont, dedicated to fostering the literary arts. We believe in the radical and radiant power of storytelling and are committed to supporting as many voices as possible find their way to the page. We offer year-round classes, mentoring partnerships, retreats, readings and events, all aimed to empower and enrich the creative, intellectual and artistic lives of a diverse demographic of writers and readers, both locally and afar.

Robin Marie MacArthur (author of Half Wild and Heart Spring Mountain) founded WORD HOUSE in 2018, hosting writing workshops, readings, and gatherings in various spaces in Brattleboro, Vermont. In 2021, Word House moved into a space on Robin’s family farm in Marlboro, and in 2026, it is once again expanding its breadth and vision to include writing retreats, workshops, and a year-long reading series, IN CONVERSATION, in partnership with The Campus at Marlboro Music.
